Target General Infomation
Target ID
T42065
Former ID
TTDI02080
Target Name
N-acetylmannosamine kinase
Gene Name
GNE
Synonyms
Bifunctional UDPNacetylglucosamine 2epimerase/Nacetylmannosamine kinase; UDPGlcNAc2epimerase/ManAc kinase; GNE
Target Type
Clinical Trial
Disease Myopathy [ICD10: M60-M63]
Function
Regulates and initiates biosynthesis of N- acetylneuraminic acid (NeuAc), a precursor of sialic acids. Plays an essential role in early development (By similarity). Required for normal sialylation in hematopoietic cells. Sialylation is implicated in cell adhesion, signal transduction, tumorigenicity and metastatic behavior of malignant cells. {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10334995}.
